Chı̨ą (Birds)

Ideas for Using This Book

First read Chı̨ą with the students.  Stay fully in the language.  Do not translate.

  • Point to the bird when you say the name of the bird.

  • Use your fingers to indicate the number when you read the number.

  • These gestures will reinforce that the name of the bird (noun) comes before the number of birds seen (adjective)

Next, go to any random page in the book and ask the students in the language:

  • How many birds do you see?  Reinforce that they should say the name of the bird first, and then the number they see.

Students can also describe:

  • colours

  • sizes

  • beaks, wings, and feathers

  • birds flying, sitting, swimming, or hunting

  • similarities and differences between birds
