Rosie in Spring

Back to wordless Books

Ideas for Using This Book

This Rosie book can be used as a wordless book, allowing many different kinds of language to be used with the same images. Use the pictures to have conversations with students — this is called a picture talk.

Reinforce the verb “to see” by asking: What do you see?

On each page, students can describe what they notice, such as birds flying, snow, trees, water, people on the land, or animals.

Pages can be selected at random so students focus on describing what they observe rather than retelling a memorized story.

The book can also be used as a counting activity:

  • I see 1 bird.

  • I see 2 geese.

As students gain confidence, encourage them to add:

  • Where things are

  • What they are doing (flying, sitting, hunting, walking)
